This
course is designed to give you the key technical,
managerial and team-working skills needed to thrive
in the mechanical engineering and related industries.
Mechanical Engineers are trained to produce practical
designs for a wide range of practical applications
- from engines to complete Formula 1 racing cars,
from artificial heart valves to state-of-the art
wheelchairs. You could find yourself working on
various projects from very small micro-robots
to space
|
stations. It is a great challenge and you need
good technical skills as well as the ability
to work in a team if you are going to be successful.
The course at MIIS has been designed to give
you experiences that will allow you to apply
what you learn in an industrial setting.
The course is modular in nature and structured
to allow students to gradually build on their
knowledge and skills. It has a large practical
element which underpins the learning in lectures.
This can take many forms including laboratory
work in our modern facilities, team projects
and industrial seminars.
The present-day mechanical engineering field
spans a ever increasing spectrum of studies
including design and operation of energy conversion
systems, fuel cells, and computer aided design
and modelling of engineered systems, to name
just a few. Mechanical Engineering is an engineering
discipline that involves the application of
principles of physics for analysis, design,
manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical
systems. It requires a solid understanding of
key concepts including mechanics, kinematics,
thermodynamics and energy. Mechanical engineers
use these principles and others in the design
and analysis of automobiles, aircraft, heating
& cooling systems, watercraft, manufacturing
plants, industrial equipment and machinery,
medical devices and more.

Becoming
a Mechanical Engineer |
The scope of mechanical engineering includes
all aspects of the mechanics of equipment and
processes used in this rapidly developing technical
era.
Mechanical engineers play a key role in the
all fields of automation, fluid machinery, and
in the fields of automation, in manufacturing
and biomechanical systems, and consumer goods
and appliances to name a few.
Because a mechanical engineer might work in
any one of these fields, the academic program
has been planned to offer a challenging and
basic education. It is designed to provide knowledge
of the basic physical sciences, and to encourage
the development of ingenuity for the purpose
of creating well-engineered solutions to technological
problems.

Teaching and Learning |
| |
MIIS believes in delivering its courses with
an interactive, two-way exchange of information
between students and our staff. We believe learning
does not happen by simply listening to a lecture
or reading handouts – the student is an integral
part of their own education.
The staff make use of a range of teaching and
learning instruments including lectures, tutorials,
laboratories, group work and computer assisted
learning. They are dedicated to the pursuit of
knowledge and excellence in their own areas of
specialism, and are authorities, and to passing
this knowledge through their inspirational teaching.
Our teaching is student-centred and is supported
by excellent resources including specialist texts
and web-based support.
